Blackjack is a card game against the dealer. You try to get closer to 21 than the dealer without going over. You choose whether to hit, stand, double or split, and those choices change the odds — which is why blackjack has one of the lowest house edges in the casino when you play correctly.
Basic strategy in short
Always split aces and eights

Stand on hard 17 or higher

The number that matters is the house edge. With correct basic strategy it can drop to around 0.5%, giving an RTP near 99.5% — better than almost any other casino game. Deviating from strategy, or taking insurance, gives that edge back to the house.
Blackjack variants
Common variants include Classic, European, Atlantic City, Vegas Downtown and Live Blackjack. Rules such as the number of decks, whether the dealer hits soft 17, and payout for a natural (3:2 is good, 6:5 is worse) all shift the edge, so check the rules before you sit down.
